Matt Cate, P.E.

Matt Cate, P.E., has been a TTAP staff member since joining CTR in 1997. During his CTR tenure, he served as a Technical Assistance Engineer and as TTAP’s Technical Assistance Coordinator before becoming TTAP’s Director in January 2016. His current responsibilities include overseeing and administering TTAP’s Local Technical Assistance Program activities, directing local agency technical assistance efforts, supporting course development and instruction, and coordinating TTAP’s activities and priorities with those of TDOT, FHWA, and NLTAPA.
Matt has delivered several TTAP courses, including Roadside Safety Standards, Road Safety 365, Traffic Signs and Pavement Markings, Fundamentals of Traffic Control, Drainage System Maintenance, Traffic Sign Retroreflectivity, Basic Traffic Studies, Road Safety Audits, and Roadway Drainage Design. He is an active member of Tennessee’s State Transportation Innovation Council, the Tennessee Strategic Highway Safety Plan Committee, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office Occupant Protection Task Force, and the Tennessee Highway Safety Office Pedestrian Task Force. Matt previously served the NLTAPA as the Southeast Region Representative and Co-Chair of the Innovation and Implementation Workgroup.
Matt earned Bachelor of Science (1997) and Master of Science (2000) degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee Knoxville and is a registered Professional Engineer in Tennessee.
