Christian Sabillon-Orellana

Postdoctoral Research Associate, CTR

Christian Sabillon-Orellana (Chris Sabillon) has served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate since February 2025. During his time at CTR, he has conducted research in transportation engineering and developed artificial intelligence (AI) tools and software aimed at improving transportation safety. His current work focuses on advancing research in AI, machine learning, and statistical analysis for a range of engineering applications, including infrastructure management, sustainable materials, public transportation, and highway safety.

Sabillon has authored four peer-reviewed journal articles, three conference proceedings, and four technical reports. He has served as a guest lecturer for a course on machine learning and data science. Additionally, he contributed as a panel member for a National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) project focused on applying artificial intelligence to monitor highway pavement conditions. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Sabillon earned a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, as well as a Master’s in Statistics and Data Science—all from the University of Texas at Austin.
