This webinar will provide an introduction into the use of preemption and priority for signalized intersections. They utilize similar technology but have significantly different applications and operations. Preemption interrupts normal signal operations to accommodate the activation of a nearby railroad crossing, the approach of an emergency vehicle, or the opening of a drawbridge. Priority temporarily modifies signal timing to facilitate the movement of transit and freight vehicles without impacting coordinated operation of the signal. We will define the two functions and compare and contrast their applications and operations.
